User Groups / Special Interst Groups FAQ
How are the TechMaine User Groups and Special Interest Groups Organized?
Our User Groups and SIGS are organized under charter of TechMaine and in furtherance of the mission of TechMaine, and are operated for educational, literary and scientific purposes. Each group is managed by a team of volunteers, who set the schedule, select topics, and help facilitate the meetings.
Where do the groups meet?
All of the TechMaine User Group / SIG meetings are held at the TechMaine Technology Center unless specifically noted otherwise in the event listing. See driving directions here.
When do the groups meet?
Check the events calendar for meeting dates and times. Most groups meet on a set day of each month, but the schedule varies from time to time.
Who can attend the meetings?
The meetings are open to the public. Please feel free to attend any of the user group/sig meetings. Please register to attend, to help us keep an accurate head count and plan the meetings appropriately.
Is there a charge to attend?
No. All group meetings are free. Company sponsorships help us pay for the facility and overhead for running the ugs/sigs. Please support our sponsors!
What are the goals of the UGs and SIGs?
- To contribute to the development of a highly skilled workforce for the technology sector in Maine.
- To promote knowledge of, and greater interest in, the science, design, development, construction, languages, management and applications of modern technology.
- To facilitate useful communication among people having an interest in software and information technologies.
I'd like to present at a meeting. Who should I contact?
We are always interested in presentation ideas. Use the Contact Form to send us a note.
Can I help plan meetings?
Absolutely. Use the Contact Form to sendus a note, and let us know which user group you want to get involved with.
Is there a User Group or SIG that covers [your topic here]?
The UG / SIG overview page lists all the active and pending groups (and some inactive ones as well). Please tell us if you are interested in a User Group / SIG that doesn't appear on that page. Here is what we will look for, when considering starting a new group:
- Is there someone who is especially interested in helping to start and manage this new group?
- Is there enough interest in this topic to support a group?
- Do any of the existing groups already cover this topic?
I have some other question. Who should I ask?
