Engineering Scientific/Technical Services

Maine is gaining jobs in this technology cluster at a fast pace with gains of more than ten percent from 2007 to 2012. Future national projections suggest this will continue to be a high-growth industry. Engineering occupations focus on the application of scientific knowledge in order to design and develop virtually all man-made construction and manufacturing processes. Nearly seventy percent of engineers are employed outside of the professional, scientific, and technical services sector, with their employment distributed across a variety of Maine's tech clusters. More engineers are employed in the manufacturing sectors than in the professional, scientific, and technical services sector. Similar to Information Technology occupations, many engineering professionals are self-employed and offer their knowledge and skills on a consultation basis.
