MMTA is totally committed to serving the needs of its members by providing quality programs and services focusing on workplace safety, environmental compliance and technical training. Our Annual Conference & Business Meeting serves as a major training and networking event for the membership. Regional Meetings provide members with face to face access to the Board and Staff and additional peer to peer networking in a less formal setting.
MMTA is the sponsor of the Maine Clean Boatyards & Marinas Program, a voluntary beyond compliance initiative that helps facility operators to meet and exceed environmental standards.
MMTA provides a powerful voice in advocating for the industry with State and Federal regulatory agencies and the legislature. We believe strongly that working with government can, and does, provide positive outcomes for our members, our employees, our customers, our communities and the State of Maine.
The Maine Marine Trade Association was incorporated as a not-for-profit trade association in 1966. In its early years the Association was run completely by volunteers. Many of us remember with great fondness the dedication and hard work of folks like Fran and Millie Pierce, Wally Baker and Ed Langer.
Today - more than 40 years from our creation - that tradition of strong volunteer participation continues with support and guidance provided by an all-volunteer Board of Directors. MMTA members are welcomed and encouraged to participate on the Association's standing and special committees as their schedules permit. MMTA's 200 member firms are served by a small professional staff that includes a full time Executive Director and an Office Administrator.
