Clusters and the Technology Sectors
The are basic technology sectors that broadly define the areas of the Maine economy where technological innovation is particularly critical to commercial success. These sectors are very diverse in size and characteristics and most of them have sub-sectors or emerging clusters. The sectors share common needs and often the emerging clusters blur the perceived lines between the sectors. This overview of Maine's technology ecosystem will outline the current and emerging technologies and highlight the dynamic companies that are driving economic activity and creating high paying jobs.
The Maine Technology Institute (MTI) has published a forward-looking, comprehensive assessment on how Maine’s technology industries are evolving and performing as drivers of economic growth. This report, Re-Examining Maine's Economic Position, Innovation Ecosystem and Prospects for Growth in its Technology-Intensive Industry Clusters, also assesses the gaps and weaknesses in Maine’s “innovation ecosystem”.
