Endangered Species & Wildlife Protection- "Taking" Care of Business

The northern long-eared bat is just one of a growing number of wildlife and plants now protected under the Endangered Species Act, triggering a number of regulatory and project permitting requirements and expenditures. If the species continues to decline and becomes endangered, development in some of the bats’ range may be endangered as well.

What are the effects of listing endangered and threatened species on future development and industry, particularly energy development (wind, transmission) and the forest products industry? What innovative ways exist to manage and protect wildlife while maintaining sustainable economic development? What help is available for developers to assess their projects and determine how listings will affect their project budgets and timetables? What other listings are on the horizon?
