Betty Twarog passed away recently after several months of failing health. She was 85 years of age. Betty was credited in 1953 with discovering serotonin, a neurotransmitter hormone that plays an important part in the regulation of learning and sleep, and also has a role in affecting mood. Matt Jancovic was named executive vice president of sales and marketing for Oxford Networks. Jancovic, of Gray, was previously the vice president of marketing for the Maine-based technology company. He has worked in the telecommunications and Internet industries for over 18 years.
Systems Engineering, the largest independent and employee-owned IT provider in Northern New England, has announced that Jon Henderson has joined the company as a business development manager for the Greater Bangor area. Henderson has more than 10 years of experience in the telecommunications and IT industries. Most recently, he served as senior vice president of sales and marketing at Otelco Inc.
Mark Wright, chief information officer at Inmar, was named one of Computerworld's Premier 100 IT Leaders for 2013. Wright joined Inmar as CIO in 2010.
Roger Redin was hired as a technology support specialist. Redin previously taught computer classes at the Community College of Rhode Island.
Steve Bedell joined Winxnet as a technical support specialist. Bedell was an affiliate member of the Maine Computer Crimes Task Force. He worked for various technology companies during his time as a police officer before becoming a systems engineer for the local municipality's technology department.
