ADO.NET provides consistent access to data sources such as Microsoft SQL Server, as well as data sources exposed through OLE DB and XML. Data-sharing consumer applications can use ADO.NET to connect to these data sources and retrieve, manipulate, and update data. ADO.NET cleanly factors data access from data manipulation into discrete components that can be used separately, or in tandem. ADO.NET includes .NET Framework data providers for connecting to a database, executing commands, and retrieving results. Those results can be presented to the database users in any number of ways. In this tutorial, Mark Long shows you, step by step, how to take advantage of ADO.NET's functionality to enhance your network's productivity.

C# is the Microsoft flagship programming language. It is a simple, powerful, type-safe, and object-oriented language. The many innovations of C# enable rapid application development while retaining the expressiveness and elegance of C-style languages. Since its introduction in the early 2000s as a competitor to Java, C# has steadily developed a very strong identity and is outpacing all competitors as a platform for mission critical applications. In this VTC course, author Mark Long will teach you how to program with C#. He will explain the language's features, quirks, and functionalities in a way that is easy to follow and understand. From simple variable declaration to understanding delegates and events, you'll learn a lot about developing with C#.

Microsoft Office is the foundation of most business computer systems; understanding its power and utilizing its productivity is crucial in today's environment. The Microsoft Certified Application Specialist (MCAS) certification is a series of performance-based exams of the Microsoft Office Suite. The exams focus on the use of these programs in a "real world" enviroment: Microsoft Office Word 2007, Excel 2007, PowerPoint 2007, Access 2007, Outlook 2007, and Windows Vista. Acquiring MCAS Certification places a candidate above the rest when searching for new positions and advancement opportunities. This course prepares you for MCAS exams 77-600 through 77-605 by teaching the skills you need to master in each of the programs to achieve the highest standards of performance and efficiency.

Language Integrated Query is a new programming feature set that Microsoft officially introduced as part of the 3.5 release version of the .NET Framwork. LINQ brings the world of data queries into the .NET Framework and makes the query itself part of the development environemnt. The result is that developers can now access data from diverse sources using queries with very similar syntax. LINQ provides Intellisense, compiler hints and assistance as well as making data queries happen with few lines of code that is easier to read and understand. In this course, Mark Long introduces you to the basics of LINQ. He shows you how to get started with LINQ, how LINQ works and with lots of programming demos, he takes you step by step through using LINQ to query Objects, SQL Server and XML documents.

Visual Basic 2008, which is part of the Visual Studio 2008 package, is an object-oriented, general purpose programming language. Programmers using the Visual Basic 2008 language have the ability to write applications ranging from simple user-friendly front-end interfaces to complex database applications. VB 2008 applications can be deployed as stand-alone or web-based applications. This tutorial by Arthur Lee assumes no prior programming background and uses a building block approach beginning with simple programming features and examples while gradually introducing more complex features. Where appropriate, new features that have been introduced in the 2008 version of Visual Basic will be explained. Coding examples are provided to be referenced by the user to enhance their learning experience. Work files are included.

Microsoft Access allows a user to create many different items: tables, forms, reports, macros, and queries. However, the greatest power lies in Modules. Modules contain Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) code that runs in the background, performing more complex operations than any of the other items can perform. This VTC course will discuss how to do many different processes in VBA Modules, including creating customized data items and classes, as well as referencing data that exists in a separate database.

The Microsoft Office suite of applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access) allows users to customize views or output, but the processing performed by the applications cannot be changed. However, Microsoft provides an interface in which the user can create customized processing. The language used for this customized processing is based on a computer programming language called Visual Basic. The Microsoft programming environment, called Visual Basic for Applications, has a special format and syntax that must be followed in order for the computer to properly perform the work. This VTC course describes the reserved keywords, structures, and language aspects that a user would need to know in order to create customized processing for Microsoft Office applications. Work Files are included.
